Paul Mayer

Founder of Bodyflight Bedford and of Tunnel Instructor

Paul started his career after studying engineering, robotics and software development - working in corporate finance IT and systems development.

After working with technology for so long, the desire to do something a little more fun was large! Being a keen skydiver, the excitement of bringing indoor skydiving to the UK was too much to resist. With very few tunnels in Europe, Paul opened Bodyflight Bedford in 2005 and the facility quickly became known globally as a destination for skydivers.

Paul launched the first international wind tunnel competition with the Bodyflight World Challenge which grew year on year.

At the time of Bodyflight opening the industry was still new with no real standards or training practices available to new tunnel facilities. In 2008 Paul set up Tunnel Instructor with Alberto Fuertes and Brendan O'Rafferty, who at the time were part of the team at Bedford. Their desire was to enable safety and knowledge to be shared and to provide a framework which could assist operators in the industry. Over the following years the standards and training materials from Tunnel Instructor have been adopted by many tunnels worldwide.

After 15 years in the tunnel business, Paul sold Bodyflight Bedford in 2018.
